The China International Contractors Association (CHINCA) has released the list of the China International Sustainable Infrastructure Award (CISIA) project winners for 2022, which includes the Pokhara International Airport in Nepal, the Al Dhafra PV2 Solar Project in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Cambodian Tatay Hydropower Station in Cambodia, all major overseas projects of Sinomach.

The CISIA is one of the most influential awards in the field of foreign contracted projects.

Pokhara International Airport

Pokhara International Airport, located in the southern foothills of the Himalayas, is a key project of cooperation between China and Nepal. The airport is listed as a national pride project by the Nepalese government, and symbolizes the profound friendship between the Chinese and Nepalese people across the Himalayas. The project was performed under an EPC contract of the Export-Import Bank of China (China EXIM Bank) by China CAMC Engineering Co Ltd (CAMCE), a subsidiary of Sinomach.
The airport is the first modern international airport in Nepal and is designed in accordance with the 4D standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Its runway is 2,500 meters long and the construction area of its terminal building is approximately 15,000 square meters. Equipped with advanced facilities covering communication, navigation, surveillance, and airfield lighting, the airport can handle Airbus A320 and Boeing 757 planes.

The project was designed and constructed in strict accordance with high modern standards, and is not only a brand-new construction model and standard for Nepal, but also cultivates a group of talents for the development of Nepal’s civil aviation industry.
The project will greatly improve local air transportation capacity and promote the economic, social and especially the tourism development of Nepal, further securing the friendship between China and Nepal.

The Al Dhafra PV2 Solar Project

The Al Dhafra PV2 solar project, contracted by Sinomach subsidiary China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) under the EPC mode, is the world’s largest single site photovoltaic plant. Inspired by China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), it’s a global landmark project in renewable energy.
The project includes a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 2,100 MW, and covers an area of 20 square kilometers. It adopts the world’s most advanced photovoltaic technology, and features world-leading power plant performance and power generation efficiency. The power plant was connected to the grid in November 2022, and its total electricity generation has so far exceeded 960 million kWh, enough to provide power for up to 160,000 homes across the UAE

It has reduced Abu Dhabi’s carbon emissions by more than 2.4 million metric tons per year, and will increase the share of clean energy in the UAE’s total energy mix to more than 13 percent, contributing to the sustainable development of the country’s energy economy.

Cambodian Tatay Hydropower Station

Located on a river flowing through Koh Kong Province, the Cambodian Tatay Hydropower Station serves as a model of China-Cambodia cooperation under the BRI, and was invested and constructed by Sinomach subsidiary China National Heavy Machinery Corporation (CHMC) by means of the BOT model.
The Cambodian Tatay Hydropower Station has a total installed capacity of 246 MW and a designed average annual generating capacity of 858 million kWh.

Construction started on June 23, 2010, and the station was the country’s largest single-stage hydropower station with investment from Chinese enterprises at that time.

In 2014, all its units were connected to the grid for power generation and in 2015 it entered commercial operation with safe, stable and reliable power plant operation.

The station has exerted a major influence on developing clean energy, stabilizing electricity prices and promoting national economic construction in Cambodia. It has also effectively improved the living conditions of Cambodian people, and provided a guarantee for Cambodia’s energy security and industrial transformation.

The Cambodian Tatay Hydropower Station has more than met its annual power generation task for eight consecutive years, and has been honored with the Excellence Award by the Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC), the state power corporation of Cambodia.
